Brighton

Hey there,

This weekend I have been finishing up my schoolwork, cause tomorrow will be my last day at Middlesex University AND my last day in London! It's a shame that I already need to leave..

I actually need to pack my bags right now so I will upload a further description of my weekend Wednesday!

But for now, a photo that I made in Brighton today:

Olympics

Hellooo there,
Sorry for not posting the last couple of days but I haven't been at home that much!
Thursday I went to the Olympic torch finale @ Hyde Park with my steph-sister Eva. The sun was shining, there were 65.000 people and there were bands playing all the time; the atmosphere was really good!

The performances I liked most were Rizzle Kicks, Eliza Doolittle, a dancing team wich I forgot the name of (I'll try to remember and post something about them later) and Dizzee Rascal.

Yesterday I've been to school, where we had a portfolio and performance workshop. I performed Dusty Springfields 'Son of a Preacher Man'; one of my ultimate favourite songs to sing,
After uni I had a couple of drinks with three guys of my course, wich was fun :) In the evening I watched the opening of the olympics on television with my family, I though it was amazing! Afterwards I went to Fabric with Eva, wich was epic! I loved the building, the music, the people.. everything!

And now, well.. I just woke up an hour ago or so hahaha and today I'm finishing up some schoolwork.

:) x

(By the way: the reason that I'm not posting a lot of pictures is because I'm only taking pictures with my fisheye camera wich is analogue, so I need to develop the photos and that takes 8 days)

Goodbye

Hello there,
At Monday Pieter and I first went to Picadilly Circus to check out the Abercrombie & Fitch there and to pick up my fisheye photos that were developed (I will post them later today). Then we went to the Museum of Popular Music in the O2 and we went to the British Music Experience there. I really liked it, you could see the development in music very well and they had a lot of cool stuff like guitars and clothes from big musicians like Queen, the Beatles, the Who, Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys etc.
After the museum we had dinner at a very nice Japanese restaurant in China Town. Then we went to Southbank, because we wanted to get in the Starflyer (a carousel of 40 meters!). That was pretty scary but amazing! We could see the Millenium bridge, london eye, big ben etc from above so that was great. Afterwards we went home and watched Harry Potter 2 :)

Yesterday Pieter went back home again and I went to school. We had an aural test wich went really good so that was a pleasant surprise :) Today I'm going to Alexandra Park to read books about writing essays about music, so that I can hopefully finish my essay tonight. The essay I am writing is about Etta James. And especially about her album At Last! (1961).

Here is a picture Pieter and I took when we were at Trafalgar Square:

Another day in London

Hey there,
Yesterday Pieter and I went to Camden. I bought a couple of little presents for my friends and after we also visited Proud Gallery (you should all check that out!) we had an afternoon tea at a teahouse at the end of the stables at Camden. I forgot the name but I'll look it up and mention it later, cause it was a really nice place!

After that we went to Kings Cross to see platorm 9 and 3/4, from the Harry Potter movies. Then we went to Covent Garden where we saw a couple of street artists perform. We walked to Leicester Square to the HMV there to buy two Harry Potter movies (we were really in a Harry Potter mood haha) that we saw later that night. Before we watched the movies we had dinner at Yo Sushi, what was also very nice.

We are not quite sure what we're doing today, but we'll see!

Last couple of days

Hey there!

So.. Friday I've been to school. We had a lecture about music promotion and managing, wich was very interesting. That night I picked up Pieter at the trainstation.
Today we've been hanging out in London, visiting the usual spots; denmark street, oxford street, regent street, carnaby street, leicester square, trafalgar square, milenniumbridge, southbank....
After that we went to a bandnight at The Enterprise where we met up with Anna, Sam and Matin (friends from Middlesex University). Here is a picture of me with Anna & Sam:

It's Sam's birthday today sooo: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Tomorrow Pieter and I will spend the day at Camden: whoohoeeeee!

18th birthday

Hey there,
Yesterday was my 18th birthday and I had a wonderful day!
I had breakfast with my mum and afterwards we went to Camden. After a little bit of shopping there, we had lunch with my uncle. Later that day we had an afternoon tea with two of my friends from Holland and in the evening we went out.

Here are a couple of polaroids of that day:

My weekend

Hey there,
I just wanted to report how my weekend was.
As you all know, I've been to Camden at Saturday. After I spent my day there, I had a couple of drinks at a lovely English pub near Oxford street with a friend of my University.
At Sunday I went to Covent Garden in the morning, where I saw a couple of street artist perform. After an hour of wandering through Covent Garden, I started walking towards Trafalgar Square.
On my way there, I passed the London Film Museum. I saw that the entrance was free so I decided to have a look (I really really love film!).

There were two exhibitions in the museum: Capturing the Shadows & Magnum on Set.
I absolutely loved them both.

The first one, Capturng the Shadows, was about the history of film: the beginning. A couple of years ago I made an essay about the beginning of film with a friend of mine, so I already knew pretty much but it was extremely interesting. I also loved seeing all these old cameras.

The second one, Magnum on Set, was about movies from the early 1900s till the 1970s. They showed photos en films of great movies from these times. They also had really cool items of these old movies, like an original scarf of Charlie Chaplin, keys to Marilyn Monroes dressing room, John Waynes hat, an original script of 'Some like it hot' and pillboxes and jewelry of Marilyn Monroe.

You should all check it out!

After I went to the exhibition I went to embankment to get some food and I ate it in a park near embankment. After my break I walked over the Milleniumbridge and walked to a bookmarket at Southbank. I bought a book to learn Spanish, a book with all kinds of poetry from the early 1900s and a book about moviestars from old movies (similar to the exhibition Magnum on Set). I will show pictures of the books later :)

After that I saw a couple of more street artists and I sat in the grass near to the London Eye, reading the poetry book I just bought.

In the evening I met up with two friends from Holland who arrived in London that day. We went to a really nice pub at Camden and spent the evening there.

Today I've been shopping at Oxford Street with the same friends and after having dinner with them, I went home to do my homework for my classes tomorrow (I will have a class called 'Music Theory and Practice' and 'Portfolio Workshop). After that I will meet up with my mum, who will be in London the next couple of days because my 18th birthday is Wednesday (tomorrow will be my last day as a child haha!).

So, I think that was a good enough description of my weekend :)

Lastly, I would like to post a poem from the poetry book I bought that I really like. Here it is:

Pre-existence

I laid me down upon the shore
And dreamed a little space;
I heard the great waves break and roar;
The sun was on my face.

My idle hands and fingers brown
Played with the pebbles grey;
The waves came up, the waves went down,
Most thundering and gay.

The pebbles, they were smooth and rond
And warm upon my hands,
Like little people I had found
Sitting among the sands.

The grains of sands so shining-small
Soft through my fingers ran;
The sun shone down upon it all,
And so my dream began:

How all of this had been before;
How ages far away
I lay on some forgotten shore
As here I lie to-day.

The waves came shining up the sands,
As here to-day they shine;
And in my pre-pelasgian hands
The sand was warm and fine.

I have forgotten whence I came,
Or what my home might be,
Or by what strange and savage name
I called that thundering sea.

I only know the sun shone down
As still it shines to-day,
And in my fingers long and brown,
The little pebbles lay.

Camden Town

So, two days ago I've been to Camden.
For those of you who don't know what that is (shame on you!): Camden is a place in London with open-air and indoor markets and a lot of shops, bars and restaurants. It is definately  my favourite place in London. The atmosphere is great, the things you can buy there are amazing, the people are really nice and everybody had really amazing, authentic styles.
Later this month I will post my favourite places at Camden, but for now.. here are the things I bought:

Dress, 30 pounds

Shorts, 15 pounds

Shirt, 15 pounds

Left ring 3 pounds, right ring 9 pounds

49 cent per ring, 5 rings for 2 pounds

Bandana, 3 pounds

3 plectrums for 5 pounds

I bought the plectrums at this new shop in Camden called Camden Guitars, check it out: http://www.camdenguitars.co.uk/.

T in the park

And again, it's been a while.. sorry!
Since I arrived in London I've just been so busy that I didn't have time to check my computer or post anything. I don't even know if I've told you guys why I am in London?
I am doing a summer course at Middlesex University about Popular Music. The lessons are about songwriting, harmonic understanding, melodic writing and harmonisation of melodies, performance and improvisation, free and pastiche composition and popular music history and genres.

I had my first lessons last Friday and I really loved it! My next lessons will be tomorrow so today I will prepare the things we need to read and do for tomorrow.
Friday night I took the night bus to Glasgow, where one of my best friends (Marieke) is on a holiday. I arrived Saturday morning and that day we went to the festival 'T in the Park'.We hung out at the hospitality lounge a lot (they had good DJs!) and in the evening we went to the concert of the Stone Roses. We were able to go backstage and watch the concert from the side of the stage, so that was insane! We also got to meet the guys of the band.
Here are a few pictures of that day:

At Saturday we just spent the day hanging out in Glasgow and in the evening I took the nightbus home and here I am now. Because of all this I hadn't been able to put photos on the computer (from my high tea last week for example), so I will do all of that today :)
From now on I will be posting everyday!!

It's been a while

Sorry, I didn't post anything the last couple of days, because I've been very busy!
I had my graduation, celebrated my birthday with friends and family (you will see pictures of all this later) and right now I am on the boat, going to LONDON, where I am staying for a month.
So, the next 4 weeks you will see and hear everything that is going on in London :)
But for now, a picture of all the AMAZING presents I got for my 18th birthday!
